THE SHERATON ATLANTA HOTEL TAKES FIRST IN ATLANTA HOTELYMPICS
ATLANTA, GA (June, 2002) – The Atlanta Hotel Council (AHC) officially declared The
Sheraton Atlanta Hotel overall winner of the first annual Atlanta Hotelympics
competition held on Thursday, September 19 in Woodruff Park. Funds raised from
the community event provide support for the Atlanta Hotel Scholarship Fund,
which lends assistance to high school and college students who wish to pursue
a career in the hospitality industry.
Not your usual picnic games, the Atlanta Hotelympics included props ranging
from feather dusters to toilet plungers. Overall 15 Atlanta-area hotels
including Hilton Atlanta, Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Renaissance Atlanta Hotel,
Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Ritz Carlton Atlanta and Westin Atlanta Airport
participated in the bellman relay race, a bed-making race, a cream of the
crop culinary race and the highly anticipated General Managers race.
The Atlanta Hotelympics is a program of the Atlanta Hotel Council. The
AHC is made up of city of Atlanta hotel General Managers, and operates
under the Georgia Hospitality and Restaurant Association. Additional
supporting entities include: Georgia Hospitality and Travel Association,
Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Georgia World Congress Center,
Central Atlanta Progress/ Atlanta Downtown Improvement District, and
Georgia State University.
The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, owned by Amerimar Enterprises, Inc. and Angelo,
Gordon & Co., is located in the heart of lively downtown Atlanta, two
blocks from Peachtree Street. Featuring an eclectic mix of classic American
designs and styles, the hotel redefines accommodations for the next
century. Upon completion of the expansion, the hotel will offer 760
guest rooms and suites and a total of 83,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting
and event space. Beautiful ballrooms and break-out rooms flexibly

A/V capabilities. In addition, guests can take advantage of an
